What is it?


The IUCN Chair is founded as a strategic collaboration between the International University of Andalusia and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and its Mediterranean Cooperation Center (IUCN-Med). Its main objective is the generation of knowledge on how Nature-based Solutions (SbN) can contribute more effectively to the conservation of biodiversity and at the same time respond to the various challenges of society, such as climate change, food security or disaster risk, applying a systemic and transdisciplinary perspective.

This Chair aspires to be a benchmark in the generation and dissemination of relevant and documented information on NbS as defined by IUCN, specially focusing on its application in urban and peri-urban ecosystems and coastal ecosystems.

Who are we?

The team is made up of the Members of the Monitoring Committee.

The Chair will be promptly advised by experts from the six IUCN Commissions, as well as researchers and scientists in earth and social sciences through the international projection offered by the International University of Andalusia (UNIA), and other academic and research institutions associated with it.
