The IUCN Chair is founded as a strategic collaboration between the International University of Andalusia and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and its Mediterranean Cooperation Center (IUCN-Med). Its main objective is the generation of knowledge on how Nature-based Solutions (SbN) can contribute more effectively to the conservation of biodiversity and at the same time respond to the various challenges of society, such as climate change, food security or disaster risk, applying a systemic and transdisciplinary perspective.
This Chair will focus its tasks on the generation and dissemination of knowledge on how Nature-based Solutions can contribute more effectively to the conservation of biodiversity and at the same time to respond to the various challenges of society such as climate change, security food or the risk of natural disasters, using a systemic and transdisciplinary perspective.
Within this broad context, the Chair aspires to become a benchmark in the generation and dissemination of relevant and documented information on Nature-based Solutions as defined by IUCN, specially focusing on its application in urban and peri-urban ecosystems and coastal ecosystems in the area.
For this, the program of activities of the chair for the first two years will focus on three main axes:
- Teaching and training
- Research and knowledge generation
- Knowledge transfer and dissemination
